About Steph Milne
Who am I? What a big question, and where do I start?
My name is Steph, I have worked with children for over 10 years in lots of different settings and now I work as a play therapist. I am a keen drummer and have played for over 15 years. I have a big friendly dog that sadly doesn't come to sessions as he would try and eat all the toys!
I think the biggest question to answer is, Why did I want to be a Play therapist?
The answer all comes back to a clay pot. Back when I was in school in KS1 I was very shy, I didn't learn in the traditional ways and didn't always feel like I fit in, but I had this amazing teaching assistant, together we made a clay pot, she sat with me as I competed it, in the end I was so proud of it. She wrote my name on the bottom and that was it. it was a simple activity, but she sat with me, didn't push me to do it a certain way, we laughed together it was a pivotal moment in my life where I felt accepted for just being me outside of my own home. I still have that clay pot...25+ years later. Looking back on it now and the experience, that right there is what Play therapy is. I strive to create safe, nurturing space for your child, but mostly I will always accept your child for who they are and who they want to be. Because that to me is the most important thing I can offer your child. As I know exactly how important it is.
