What is Play Therapy?
Hi there! so the big question, what is play therapy?
We know that sometimes it can be hard for children to express what they’re feeling, especially when they’re worried, sad, angry, or overwhelmed. That’s where I come in with a bag full of toys!
Play therapy is a special kind of therapy just for children. Instead of relying on words (like adult therapy often does), play therapy uses the natural language of children, play! Play helps children to explore their emotions, experiences, and challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
In your child's 50 minuet session , they might use toys, art, games, or storytelling to express what’s going on inside. I am trained to observe and gently guide this play in ways that help your child make sense of their world, learn new coping skills, and work through difficult emotions or experiences.
While it may look like “just playing,” there’s actually a lot of healing and growth happening beneath the surface. Play therapy can help with things like anxiety, behavioural challenges, family changes (like divorce or loss), trauma, or simply big feelings that are hard to manage.
Most importantly, play therapy meets your child at their individual level with patience, understanding, and care.
